Nova Área Florestal Agrupada avança em Vilarinho de S. Roque, Albergaria-a-Velha
A Associação Florestal do Baixo Vouga (AFBV) iniciou recentemente os trabalhos no terreno de uma nova Área Florestal Agrupada (AFA) na zona de Chão de Riba, em Vilarinho de S. Roque (Albergaria-a-Velha), reforçando a expansão deste modelo de gestão colaborativa.
O projeto arranca com 11 proprietários e 20 parcelas contínuas, num total de 11 hectares, evidenciando a forte fragmentação da propriedade rural na região. Após os incêndios de 2024, esta abordagem tornou-se ainda mais essencial para melhorar a gestão, reduzir riscos e aumentar a resiliência da paisagem.
O modelo das Áreas Florestais Agrupadas tem vindo a ganhar reconhecimento internacional, tendo sido selecionado como iniciativa relevante no âmbito do projeto europeu SMURF, dedicado à pequena propriedade e à mobilização dos proprietários florestais.
Segundo a Direção da AFBV, “este projeto exige um intenso trabalho técnico e jurídico que não é visível no terreno, mas é absolutamente fundamental para que estas áreas existam. É urgente que as políticas públicas apoiem este esforço, garantindo condições para expandir a gestão agrupada e proteger melhor o território”. Com este novo projeto, a AFBV continua a consolidar uma rede de AFA que visa tornar o Baixo Vouga um território mais seguro, mais organizado e mais sustentável.
New Aggregated Forest Area launched in Vilarinho de S. Roque, Albergaria-a-Velha
The Baixo Vouga Forest Association (AFBV) has recently begun field work on a new Aggregated Forest Area (AFA) in the Chão de Riba zone, in Vilarinho de S. Roque (Albergaria-a-Velha), reinforcing the expansion of this collaborative forest management model.
The project starts with 11 landowners and 20 contiguous plots, covering a total of 11 hectares, highlighting the significant fragmentation of rural property in the region. Following the 2024 wildfires, this approach has become even more essential to improve management, reduce risks, and strengthen landscape resilience.
The Aggregated Forest Area model has also gained international recognition, having been selected as a relevant initiative within the European SMURF project, which focuses on small forest holdings and the mobilisation of forest owners.
According to AFBV’s Board, “this project requires intensive technical and legal work that is not visible on the ground but is absolutely essential for these areas to exist. It is urgent that public policies support this effort, ensuring the conditions needed to expand aggregated management and better protect the territory.” With this new project, AFBV continues to consolidate a network of AFAs aimed at making the Baixo Vouga a safer, more organised, and more sustainable territory.
